Best Time to Visit

May – August

Undoubtedly the best time to visit Ladakh is from May to August. The sunny skies bring the temperatures up with acceptable night time temperatures to keep you from freezing while on a stroll.

Temperatures in the month of May in Ladakh are at a pleasant 16ºC during the day and at night it keeps to around 3ºC. The passes open and the entire valley becomes accessible.

June temperatures in Ladakh are much more enjoyable as they shoot up to around 21ºC while the temperatures hover around 7ºC in the evenings. Lots of things to do during this time and most of the festivals take place during this month.

The warmest month is July where the temperatures in Ladakh reach around 25ºC. The nights temperatures are quite pleasant too at around 10ºC.

August in Ladakh begins with a dip in temperatures but not as much to make you feel uncomfortable. It’s still warm and the fields around you are green.

September – November

The temperature during September in Ladakh shows the characteristics of May. The days are warm and the night is chilly. The crowds are thin by now and you can visit any place without worrying about convergence of travellers. October tends to be chillier and by November early winter sets in Ladakh. Passes are snowed in and access to many regions are no longer possible.

December – February

Winter in Ladakh is very tough. The temperatures almost never rise above 0ºC and the nights in December and January hover around -20ºC. The rivers freeze so does all the other water bodies. There are very few travellers during this month but these months show a different side of Ladakh and its resilient and warm people.

How to Get There
