3 Week Adventure Trip to India

With a landmass this big, adventure is never too far from wherever you are in India. From dense jungles where the tiger roams to the dizzying passes of high altitude cold deserts – India is home to wild and crazy locations. Jetsetquest’s itinerary for an adventurous trip to India:

Day 1 – Arrive in New Delhi. Check in to your hotel, charge your phones, kick back and snack on some Indian food.

Day 2 – Drive to Agra a little early in the morning to avoid the traffic and to get in time for viewing the Taj Mahal. The drive will take around 4-5 hours. You can either check in to your hotel and proceed to visit Taj Mahal or it is the first thing that you can do when you reach Agra. For a peaceful view of the Taj, you can try and see it from the other side of the bank of the river after you are done with the main tour. You can proceed to see the Agra Fort after a tour of the Taj Mahal. Stay the night in Agra.

Day 3 – Again an early morning drive this would be to Ranthambore. The distance is about 260 kilometres and can easily take 6-7 hours. Rest for the night in the hotel.

Day 4 – If you want to really get out the most of your safari, you need to take atleast 2 safaris in Ranthambore. After breakfast head for the morning safari. The safari lasts for a little over 3 hours. You come back to your hotel for lunch then again head out for another round of evening safari.

Day 5 – Drive to Jaipur. Stay the night.

Day 6 – Visit Amber Palace, Nahargarh Fort, Hawa Mahal. For the first 2 places, do insist for a guide to your travel agent in India. Or else it will just be stones and bricks to you. Shop in the bustling pink bazaars of Jaipur and taste its fiery cuisine.

Day 7 – Drive to Delhi. Relax for the night or you can head out to Connaught Place or Pandara Road for a bite.

Day 8 – Fly to Leh today. After you land, just be sure to take everything slow. Don’t rush even when lifting the luggage. You are suddenly at an altitude of 3500 metres and the air is thin in Leh. You will be gasping for breath if you are exerting. Head to your hotel and rest for the day. You need complete rest to acclimatise to the altitude here. Just before sunset you can go up to Shanti Stupa to get a majestic view of the town of Leh.

Day 9 – You need another day before you can head to higher altitude and acclimatise. This day you set out to explore the Sham valley which is at a lower altitude as compared to Leh. See the meeting point of the Zanskar and Indus rivers. Explore the grand old monasteries of Alchi and Likir. Drive up to Lamayuru and experience the unique moon-like landscape of this place also known as ‘moonland’.

Day 10 – You will cross one of the world’s highest motorable pass, Khardung La, which sits at 5359 metres above msl. Cross over to witness some sweeping barren valleys crossed by rivers. Reach Nubra Valley and rest for the night.

Day 11 – The sweeping Nubra valley has many surprises in store. The sand dunes of Hundar are a treat to the eyes. Sand dunes at this altitude are quite hard to imagine. Ride the dunes of Hundar atop a bactrian camel.

Day 12 – Drive from Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso Lake. The turquoise waters of this beautiful lake is sure to make you feel relaxed even after a long drive. The endless lake hemmed between mountains seems heaven sent. After treating your eyes with the waters of Pangong Tso, drive back to Leh

Day 13 – After breakfast, it is time to fly to Delhi and then catch a connecting flight to Kochi in Kerala. Change into your cotton t shirts for its going to be a tropical weather down in Kerala. For a better experience try and book your hotel in the Fort Cochin Area.

Day 14 – Explore Fort Kochi Area which has a rich heritage with Dutch, Portuguese and British architecture. Try and take a cycling tour that takes you around Fort Kochi and nearby villages for a true local feel.

Day 15 – Drive to Munnar while taking a detour to Athirapally falls. This detour is worth it. It is a beautiful waterfall and is not to be missed. You’ll come across many small waterfalls on the way to Munnar.

Day 16 – Time today to explore the sights of this beautiful hill station. Visit Eravikulam National Park for the Nilgiri Tahr. You can also head to Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a little further away from Munnar. A hike along the Pambar river under the shade of the tall forest trees is quite a thrill.

Day 17 – Drive to Alleppey today. Around 5 hours long and you will be at the backwaters and beaches of Alleppey. Check into a houseboat and sail the backwaters. Enjoy a local dinner with a fresh catch of the day.

Day 18 – Check out from the houseboat and check into a hotel. Enjoy local spicy cuisine and fresh palm sap liquor called toddy in the famous toddy shops of Alleppey. Go for a nice relaxing and therapeutic Ayurvedic massage later in the afternoon.

Day 19 – Drive to Cochin/Kochi and fly out to Mumbai from there. Enjoy Mumbai’s nightlife either bar hopping or tasting the Malvani cuisine.

Day 20 – Explore Mumbai’s sights like the Gateway of India and the Elephanta Caves which are a little far away. Spend the evening sipping on a fresh beer overlooking the Marine Drive

Day 21 – Catch your flight back home and reminisce the beautiful memories of India and its wonders
